Health & safety

Virtual reality is safe and comfortable for most people when used sensibly.
Please read this before using the headset we lend you, and share it with anyone else who will use it.
01
Your space
  • Use the headset in a clear area, away from furniture, stairs, windows, pets and other people. Sitting on a swivel chair or a sofa is fine.
  • While you wear the headset you cannot see the room around you. Stay inside the boundary the headset shows you.
  • If someone else is in the room, ask them to keep clear of your space.
02
Your comfort
  • Start with visits of about 15 to 20 minutes, and take a break at least every 30 minutes.
  • Stop straight away if you feel dizzy, sick or unwell, or have sore eyes or a headache. Take the headset off and rest until you feel better before driving or doing anything that needs your full attention.
  • Don’t use the headset when you are tired or unwell, or after drinking alcohol.
  • If you have a history of seizures, epilepsy or another medical condition, or are pregnant, speak to your doctor before using virtual reality.
  • You can wear most glasses inside the headset. Take care not to scratch the lenses.
03
Children
  • The headset is not suitable for children under 10.
  • Young people should only use it with an adult present, for short visits.
04
Hygiene
  • Wipe the face cushion before and after use with a dry or lens-safe cloth.
  • Please don’t share the headset with anyone who is unwell.
05
Caring for the headset
  • Keep the lenses out of direct sunlight. Sunlight through the lenses can permanently damage the screens, even for a moment. Store the headset in its case, away from windows.
  • Keep the headset and controllers dry, and charge them with the cable provided.
  • Clean the lenses only with a dry microfibre cloth.
06
Our headset on loan
  • The headset belongs to Islington Architects and is lent for your project. Please keep it safe and return it with its case, controllers and cable.
  • If anything is damaged or lost, let us know straight away.
  • Meta’s own health and safety warnings apply as well: meta.com/quest/safety-center.
