Belgrave Road
London SW13 · New build
A new-build family house organised around glass: a steel-framed glass extension, walk-on glass floors and two oak and glass staircases.

03Two oak and glass staircases
The house was built new from the ground up, with the living spaces opening into a steel-framed glass extension at the rear.
Walk-on glass floors and frameless rooflights carry daylight down through the plan, so the lower floor shares the light of the garden.

The stairs
Oak, glass and steel
A helical stair winds between floors on a steel stringer, its oak treads enclosed by curved glass with a continuous steel handrail.
Elsewhere, solid oak treads are fixed to a structural glass balustrade with stainless steel fittings, so the flight appears to float.
The glass extension
A frameless glass room
All the glazing is by Cantifix. At the rear, a slender white steel frame carries full-height glass and a frameless roof, braced with stainless steel tension rods. The sliding door is believed to be one of the largest frameless sliding doors in the UK.
The roof is frameless too: aluminium panels are joined to the glass roof panels with silicone, so there are no visible frames, and the rooflights meet the extension with frameless junctions.
A walk-on glass panel in the floor lets light through to the level below.
We have worked with Cantifix since 2005, starting at Gerrard Road, and are one of their longest-standing clients.
