Two flats returned to a single family house, with a new rear extension and the front of the house restored to its original form.
01Two flats back to one house
02Part single, part two-storey rear extension
03Front restored, heat pump and solar panels
The house is a tall Victorian red-brick villa in Canonbury, divided at some point into two flats. Our scheme returns it to a single family home.
Islington Council granted planning permission in May 2026, and a second consent followed in September 2026 for further works to the front of the house and the new services. The house is now under construction, with completion due in 2027.
Design visualisations to follow
The rear
A new extension to the garden
A part single, part two-storey rear extension replaces a later addition, with a new upper ground floor terrace above.
The aluminium windows at the rear are replaced with double-glazed timber windows, and a rooflight brings light into the main roof.
The front
Putting the house back
To the street, the original roof form of the projecting bay is reinstated, the steel entrance door is replaced with a timber door, and the steps, copings and paving are renewed in natural stone, with new gates and brick piers.
Air source heat pumps sit out of sight behind the parapet of the first-floor roof, with solar panels and a car charging point, so the house is ready for the next century.
